Laguna de la Redonda (Redonda Lagoon)
This is a lake of about 5 km2 located about 8 km north of the town of Morón, and about 48 km from Cayo Coco; see the interactive map at the bottom of the page. This mangrove-rimmed lake has the highest density of trout and bass in Cuba. The Laguna de la Redonda is also distinguished by the richness of its fauna and flora, and the efforts made to preserve this environment.
In August 2012, the site was selected by the “Proyecto de Sostenibilidad” (Sustainability Project) working group (sponsored by the Global Environment Fund and the United Nations Development Program) as a guiding product for the strengthening of sustainable tourism in the Sabana-Camaguey archipelago (Including the Jardines del Rey archipelago).
You can find on-site a small tourism center called “Complejo Turistico La Redonda” managed by the Cuban Group Palmares, and offering the following services:
• Speed boat rides (11 am to 3 pm)
• Fishing excursions (11 am to 3 pm)
• Restaurant El Pescador with lagoon views (11 am to 4 pm)
• A bar (9 am to 5 pm)
• Souvenirs Shop (9 am to 5 pm)
The Laguna de la Redonda is often included in the program of the tours offered in the resorts located in the cayos of the Jardines del Rey archipelago, see our Excursions section for more information. You can also go there by yourself if you rent a car (or taxi).
